Birdwalk, beauty

A birdwalk to celebrate the 50th year after Elise Lapham began birding and banding on Block Island. [Elise died in 2011, aged 99] My favourite seen today was the house wren, a beauty, perky little brown bird. The wonderful thing about birding and banding, apart from the scientific record obtained, is that you can see them really close,  from the glorious colours of their feathers to even the ticks if they have any to be removed. Kim shares her knowledge, how she knows how old the bird is, if it is a “returner” or on its way to somewhere else, whether it has enough fat to keep it going on its journey. And as always here, beauty, the sea, the sky, the green of spring returning.
